MPC at Tsagaan Tolgoi: Documenting a Mining Reference Case from the Exploration Stage

What MPC (Mineral Project Coin) is recording in Mongolia, what it is not claiming, and why it starts at exploration

MPC Team, globalMPC6 min read

MPC (Mineral Project Coin) describes itself as infrastructure for mining real-world assets. Infrastructure claims are easy to make in the abstract, so the project ties its framework to one physical site first: Tsagaan Tolgoi, in Mongolia. This article collects what has been published about that site, states the limits of what MPC holds there, and explains why the infrastructure is being shaped around an exploration-stage project.

The facts, stated narrowly

From the MPC FAQ (globalmpc.tech/faq):

  • Tsagaan Tolgoi is at the exploration stage.
  • Bolor Geo LLC holds exploration licence XV-022460.
  • Commercial production has not started, and a production or mining licence has not been obtained.
  • Bolor Geo MPC Corp., the MPC project entity, does not hold that licence, the land title or the mine.
  • Tsagaan Tolgoi is the first reference case, not the product itself.

The team page (globalmpc.tech/team) describes Bolor Geo LLC as an independent mining counterparty that participates in MPC's Mongolian mining reference project.

We repeat these points because they are exactly the points that tend to get blurred in retellings. A reference case is where the infrastructure is tested against real data. It is not an asset that MPC owns, and it is not an offering.

What has been documented so far

The Operations section publishes field updates.

July 2026 — exploration begins. The first update (First Shovel) records crews mobilising to the site on the Mongolian steppe: heavy trucks and an excavator bringing in equipment, a prefabricated field office being set down, and gers housing the on-site team alongside container units. The update places the project at the very first step of the mine lifecycle — exploration — ahead of development and mining, processing and refining, distribution and delivery, and closure and restoration. Scale, timeline and stakeholders are listed as "to be disclosed".

September 2026 — first drilling and laboratory observations. A field update (Gold Mineralization at Tsagaan Tolgoi) reports early exploration evidence. Drillhole TDH-03, about 4 km northeast of the project camp, intersected a 50-metre-thick oxidised zone containing gold. A sample from 109 metres depth in the same hole was examined by optical microscopy and SEM-EDX at the Mongolian University of Science and Technology, which identified copper minerals and gold grains in pyrite. The update describes a gold-bearing zone approximately 700 metres long, and a second hole, TDH-07, that intersected a 30-metre iron oxide alteration zone; its samples were sent to SGS for further analysis. A high-chargeability anomaly and potential placer-gold targets are described as open targets that need further drilling and surveys.

October 2026 — more documentation. A later update (More Documentation from Tsagaan Tolgoi) shows the physical work of understanding the ground: examining exposed rock, measuring geological structures, collecting rock samples with visible mineral textures, and recovering drill core into wooden core boxes for inspection and recording. Its framing question is the one every exploration project begins with: what is actually in the ground?

None of these updates reports a resource figure, a grade or a production plan; the September results are exploration observations, not a resource estimate. The site makes no claim to a certified reserve determination (such as JORC or NI 43-101), and the dApp guide states that no resource or grade figure is published ahead of a competent-person report.

Why start at exploration

It might seem easier to demonstrate RWA infrastructure on a producing asset. MPC's whitepaper argues the opposite. The core problem it describes is provenance: being able to trace, for any piece of mining data, where it came from, who verified it, when and against which standard, and what changed afterwards.

Exploration is where that chain begins. A sample's value as evidence depends on knowing its location, the surrounding geology, how it was collected and how it was handled before it reached a laboratory. Drill core is useful because each section can be tied to a depth and a hole. If the record-keeping is not built in at this stage, provenance has to be reconstructed later, which is exactly the fragmentation the whitepaper's industry-problem chapter describes.

In MPC's terms, the field work at Tsagaan Tolgoi is the Real-World layer — the source data that the verification, data and registry layers will later attach to.

What the infrastructure will do with it

The roadmap (globalmpc.tech/roadmap) sets out the sequence, with the caveat that future milestones remain subject to technical readiness, legal review and applicable regulatory requirements:

  • Q1 2026 — define positioning, business model and initial architecture; begin Tsagaan Tolgoi exploration and data preparation; engage Mongolian government and industry stakeholders.
  • Q1 2027 — renew the exploration licence; continue core infrastructure, registry connections, verification-provider integrations and reference-project workflows.
  • Q2 2027 — begin applying the infrastructure to the Tsagaan Tolgoi reference project, including data integration, technical review, verification workflows, registry preparation and on-chain evidence.

The roadmap's closing note describes the intended first application: using Tsagaan Tolgoi to connect project data, professional verification, assay information, registry records, on-chain proofs, oracle infrastructure, lifecycle management and project-specific asset infrastructure. Once validated, the plan is to apply the same model to further projects, jurisdictions and resource categories.

On the product side, the dApp guide's MVP page lists "the Tsagaan Tolgoi reference workflow" and a "Mongolia Jurisdiction Profile" among the first product's scope items. It also states that nothing in that scope is deployed on-chain yet, and that no purchase, subscription, transfer or custody function will be built until the legal structure is confirmed.

The path from data to any asset is long

The whitepaper's lifecycle chapter describes an eleven-step lifecycle, from a mining project's application through issuance to the management that continues after it: application, initial screening, data onboarding, professional verification, legal and asset structuring, issuer or SPV setup, regulatory review, smart contract and registry, investor onboarding and distribution through licensed partners where required, issuance by the legal issuer, and lifecycle management.

Tsagaan Tolgoi, at the exploration stage, sits before most of these steps. The FAQ describes it as the first reference case, not the product itself.

The whitepaper's platform architecture chapter also separates roles along that path. The mining company or project sponsor provides the project and its source data. Professional verification partners — CPs, technical experts, testing and assay laboratories — review it independently. Legal counsel designs the asset structure. A project-specific issuer or SPV, not the platform, would be the legal issuer of any asset token, and licensed or regulated partners would handle regulated activities where a jurisdiction requires it. MPC's own role is the technology and infrastructure in between: verification data, registry, smart contracts and lifecycle management.

What to watch

If you want to follow the reference case, the primary sources are the Operations page for field updates and the roadmap for sequencing. Anything that is not published on globalmpc.tech or the official channels listed on the FAQ should be treated as unverified.
